Is there an MCP server for mortgage and home equity shopping?
Yes. FreeRateUpdate runs a free MCP server that AI agents such as ChatGPT, Claude, Grok and Gemini can use to look up today's mortgage and home equity rates and get the person they are helping matched with NMLS-licensed lenders and brokers in our network. No sign-in, no API key, read-only.

2025-11-25 revisions through initialize. There is nothing to sign up for.

A typical session: call get_mortgage_rates to see what lenders in our network advertise
today, then get_start_link for the person's product and fill in the form for them.
Add it to your assistant
Claude (claude.ai and Claude Desktop): in Settings, open Connectors and add a custom connector named FreeRateUpdate with the server URL; no sign-in is needed. On Team and Enterprise plans an owner adds it under Customize, Connectors, Add, Custom, Web.
Claude Code:
claude mcp add --transport http freerateupdate https://fru-api.freerateupdate.com/mcpChatGPT: turn on Developer mode (Settings, Apps, Advanced settings), then choose Apps, Create. Enter the server URL, choose no authentication, and scan its tools. In a Business, Enterprise or Edu workspace, an admin may need to allow custom apps first.
The xAI API (Grok) or the OpenAI Responses API: add it to a request as a remote MCP tool. This snippet is for the APIs, not a grok.com setting.

If the person asked you to shop for them, you can complete and submit the request form on their behalf using their own details, including their own phone number and email. Pressing Get Rates is their request to be contacted, on the terms shown beside the button, by FreeRateUpdate and lenders in our network. Without MCP, the same start links are on our guide for AI agents.

The rates are our As Low As Rates: the best rates and APRs we can verify being offered by lenders and brokers in our network, for the example scenario shown with each one. They are advertised rates, not a quote or an offer of credit. A person's own rate depends on their details, as this explainer covers.
